Goose Fair - A Family Tradition

Every year Nottingham is host to Goose Fair, I remember going as a child and have made it a tradition to take my children now they are old enough to enjoy it.

The lights, the smells and the atmosphere has always been electric. From the moment they put the goose up on the roundabout close to the fair site, it's the perfect opportunity to get the kids excited about the forthcoming event.

We play spot the goose for the few weeks running up to it and then on weekend of the fair we park a few streets away and the excitement builds up as you walk towards it and the screams and shouts can be heard.

Then you see the flashing lights and really tall rides, it's a bit more commercialised these days but with the traditional helta skelta, train rides and dodgems there is plenty to do for younger and older children.

Then you have the famous mushy pea stall, which apparently is a Nottingham thing and candy floss and toffee apples a plenty.

Memories are made at things like this and even if you don't go on lots of rides, the lights are beautiful to watch.

  1. Sounds like a lot of fun - the photos made me very nostalgic for the annual fair we had in the town I grew up in. Lovely tradition to continue with your children. Thanks for hosting #magicmoments this week

    1. Some of the stalls and rides I am sure would have been there when I was little so it's great to share some memories with the children, I do love the lights of a fair. Thanks for stopping by :)

  2. I'm not a fan of fairs these day, but I went to university in Nottingham and you've just brought back some happy memories of when I was less likely to be scared/ feel sick!

    1. I don't go on anything to be honest, much nicer to just watch the kids ;) It is an institution in Nottingham and such a great place to explore and show the kids.

  6. Looks fun. I tend not to go to fairs as it is soooo expensive paying for rides seperately

    1. Money off coupons from the local paper helped, we let them choose a few rides each. It's more about the atmosphere than anything else but I am sure as they get older it will get more expensive ;)
